Thursday Night Hawkeye Street Drags are back in action for our third year at Hawkeye Downs Speedway! 300’ Drags of Bracketed Side-by-Side action are slated for 6 BIG events in 2021. Our first event take place on Thursday, April 22nd at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Admission is $10 and $10 per bracket entered. Gates open at 6:00, practice at 6:30, and the first bracket 7:30! I want to compete! What do I need to do?

Once you pull into Hawkeye Downs Speedway, follow the road behind the main grandstand, this will lead you towards the Pit Entrance. At this point, vehicles will be broken into brackets as they enter the pit area by our tech officials. This means that your vehicle will be put into a bracket with other vehicles like yours. You do have the option to enter more than one bracket if you choose to do so. Make sure you are honest with the tech officials about your vehicle, placing you in the correct bracket keeps the cars competitive and fun. Admission is $10 per person and $10 for each bracket entered. Once you are placed into a bracket, you will receive a sticker to signify which brackets you are entered in. These stickers must be placed on the upper portion of the driver’s side windshield.

After you are all signed in and have been placed into a bracket, you will want to park in our pit area. There is plenty of room for trailers to park. At 6:30 PM we will begin our grudge racing also know as practice runs. This gives you an opportunity to get a feel for the track and what to expect. This also allows you the opportunity to race head to head with other people in your party like friends, family, or other car enthusiasts. Grudge racing will conclude around 7:15-7:20 to prepare for bracket racing.

Once we begin, pay attention to the announcements in the pit area. Our officials will let you know when your bracket is up, and you need to report to staging. Staging will occur near turn of the half mile on the on ramp. Your bracket will line up and prepare to be sent on to the track. Be sure to follow the direction of our officials to make sure you are in the right spot.

When you are sent onto the track continue to follow the direction of our officials to ensure you stay with your bracket. You will be sent to the starting light to begin your drag. Our officials will line you up head to head against another bracket competitor. Watch the light. Once the green is displayed. Drag race the competitor to the finish line. Once you reach the finish line, pull your foot off the accelerator, and begin to slow down. Do not accelerate into/through the corner.

One the back stretch, opposite of the start finish line, you will be sent either to the winner lane or to the looser lane. The winner lane will continue back to staging and the looser lane will have an official mark your sticker with a loss. If you lose one, do not worry, you still have one more shot. Once you lose for the second time, you have two options, to be done with the bracket and sent to the pits or have one more single elimination shot in your bracket for $10.

While on the track not dragging, keep your speed under control and do not burnout or do wheelies. The exit for the track is located in turn 3 of the quarter mile. When exiting be slow and watch for pedestrians when in the pit area. You can park back in your spot and enjoy the rest of the evening or you will need to wait for the next bracket to be called to staging.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The high-octane action of Hawkeye Street Drags is back for its third year at Hawkeye Downs Speedway and Expo Center located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. SPI Promotions announced six Street Drag events on our 300′ drag strip and also includes a car show in the pit area of the speedway. Thursday night will play host to all the events in 2021 on April 22, May 20, June 17, July 15, August 19, and September 16.

Motorsports enthusiasts from all around can take part in the action. If it has wheels, we have a bracket for you! Cars will be broken into brackets so you race with cars like yours.

Gates open for each event at 6:00 PM, with the first Grudge match at 6:30 PM, and the first bracket hitting the line at 7:30 PM. Admission is just $10 per person as well as $10 per bracket entry. Entry into the Shine ‘N Show Contest is FREE.

The damage that occurred last month at Hawkeye Downs Speedway and Expo Center due to the storms on August  10^th have caused the SPI promoted Outlaw Street Drags to be Cancelled for the remainder of the 2020 Season.

Cedar Rapids, IA – Due to the recent storms that occurred on Monday, August 10^th, effecting much of Iowa as well as Hawkeye Downs Speedway and Expo Center that plays host to the SPI promoted White Claw Outlaw Street Drags, the third  event of the year originally scheduled for Thursday, August 20^th has been cancelled.

“We are sorry to hear about the damage to Hawkeye Downs due to the recent storms.” Stated Street Drags Promotor, Keith Simmons. “We wish them the best of luck in getting the facility repaired and back in business. When the time comes, we will be ready to host our next round of Street Drags.” Concluded Simmons.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa: Round two of the 2020 SPI Outlaw Street Drags presented by White Claw Hard Seltzer are set to take place at the Hawkeye Downs Speedway on Thursday, July 16^th. Bracket racing will be open to all types of vehicles including cars, trucks, motorcycles and side by side 4 wheelers. A 300 foot strip will be set up on the front chute of the Hawkeye Downs Speedway ½ mile asphalt track. Competitors of all ages including high schoolers are encouraged to bring out their hot rods and have some fun drag racing legally.

In addition to the bracket racing, a show and shine car show will be held, car and motorcycle enthusiasts are invited to show off their shiny vehicles and take part in the fan vote for the Best of Show Trophy.

Grandstand and pit gates will open Thursday night at 6 pm with practice slated for 6:30 pm. Bracket racing will get underway at 7:30pm.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The first installment of the 2020 White Claw Outlaw Street Drags took place this past Sunday, June 14th at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. Thursday night action kicks off in 4 weeks on July 16th. Gates open at 6:00 PM, practice begins at 6:30 PM, with the first bracket starting at 7:30 PM. $10 for admission into the pit area/grandstands and $10 for each bracket entry. We will run, once per month, on Thursday nights on July 16th, August 20th and September 17th. (rain dates on the following Sunday’s of the July/August/September events)

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The SPI Outlaw Street Drags at the Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa have been reset for a Sunday, June 14th Season Opener. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic and the guidelines set forth by the Governors office, the Street Drags opener have been delayed again.

The SPI Outlaw Street Drags will take place at the Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids for the second consecutive year. All speed enthusiasts are encouraged to take part in the SPI Outlaw Street Drags which features bracket racing on the Hawkeye Downs Speedway front chute. Keith Simmons of SPI stated, “We have classes for all types of vehicles, including street rods, classic cars, motorcycles and ATV’s, if it has wheels and you like to go fast, we have a bracket for you.”

Sunday, June 14th the bracket racing is scheduled to get underway at 1 pm.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The SPI Outlaw Street Drags will be in competition at the Hawkeye Downs Speedway again in 2020. The opening event was scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 3rd but that event will not be run. Keith Simmons of SPI stated “ we will be complying with Governor Reynolds guidelines regarding public gatherings. We will be monitoring the Covid-19 guidelines closely and we are hoping to run our first SPI Outlaw Street Drag event on Sunday, May 17th. “ Simmons continued “ we are looking forward to our second season of SPI Outlaw Street Drags, we want all of our competitors and fans to stay safe and we hope to see you soon.”
